A lot of people email me and ask me how to make money off of their blog and how to start having paying sponsors. Well let me just say...I certainly don't have it all figured out. Believe me, when I start making millions off of this blog, I will let y'all know.
In the meantime, here's something that I think EVERYONE with a blog should do...install Google AdSense. It is simple and easy to install, no fuss to maintain and free. Even if it only earns you $2.00 a month, that is free money from doing something that you love...and hopefully it will continue to build as your blog grows. And if you think "pshhhh, two dollars, that's silly," then just mail it to me each month and I will gladly accept it.
Go to your blog layout, click add a gadget, then find AdSense.
As far as paying sponsors, my best advice would be to take those on only when you are committed to your blog and posting consistently. People are paying you and they expect something in return. It's not something to be taken lightly because it does require time and effort to keep up with sponsors and ensure that everyone is happy. I recommend doing a "trial" first by offering to allow people to sponsor your blog for free for a month or two, that way you can see how it works and if you are willing to maintain it.

mine must not be set up right - my first 3 months I made $13 - then it dramatically dropped [mind you I have more followers and pageviews now] to around $.13 a month!!

I agree. Being a sponsored blog is actually a LOT OF WORK. I have so much respect for the bloggers who do have paid sponsors - they take such good care of their people. I'm absolutely amazed at all they do!

ok so obviously you can have google adsense AND blogger on your page right? And since we are besties (wink) would you tell me what you make from google adsense? Only really is because I want to know if its worth it to put it on my blog, even if it just IS two dollars a month :) (hope I wasn't rude for asking, but you love me, right?)
You know....they took google adsense away for Californians.
I got the stupid email saying CA isn't allowing it anymore for whatever stupid reason. Probably because CA wasn't getting anything for it so they did the whole, well if we can't have any, you can't either thing!
But I can't do it anymore. Besides, no one EVER clicked on the ads when they were there and they just became all busy on my blog. But shoot, if they get you money...i say go for it.

Hmm, I'm not sure if Google Adsense likes people outside the US, but if they do, I might have to bookmark this page for when my Blogger blog grows a bit, since I can definitely see how it'd be worthwhile. :)

I have been wondering about this...I have been thinking about the ads, but not sure which ones I really want on there. I think yours are good, because they aren't too cluttered, but some people go a bit crazy. I also want to do sponsorships, BUT some people go crazy with it and I feel like I shouldn't even read their blog anymore, because it's all about their sponsors. I guess I'm just trying to figure out a happy medium for it all! I'll just keep taking my time and collecting all the info I can. Thanks beautiful!
